What were your first impressions of the team and culture and how has this evolved?
From the outset, my impression of the team and overall culture was that of a close-knit group of people who genuinely care about the business, support one another, and are committed to its success. Six months in, I think that still holds true. When I talk about the journey I envision for this business, I sense a real enthusiasm and willingness from our people to be part of it and help drive progress. With last year’s successes came the inevitable challenges that come with growth. The company has responded to this by strengthening the senior leadership team and additional governance and processes being implemented. It’s been encouraging to see how many of our people have embraced these changes and are actively contributing to the business’s evolution.
How would you describe your leadership style in three words?
Collaborative, Structured, Composed.
What’s one challenge you didn’t expect – and how did you tackle it?
I was genuinely surprised by the depth of our service portfolio. I wasn’t quite expecting our business to encompass such a wide range of services. Many areas such as consumer-based retail installations, managed Wi-Fi, and cabling, are not a big part of my background, so getting my understanding of these services up to speed quickly has been a challenge. To address this, I’ve taken steps to deepen my understanding of our offerings by tapping into the knowledge of subject matter experts across the business, our suppliers/partners and conducting my own research. I’ve also been working with the team to simplify our portfolio, sharpening our focus on core capabilities while still allowing for flexibility through adjacent, complementary services that align with customer needs.
What’s your vision for the next 6–12 months?
I’m impressed by what the business has achieved to date, achieving significant growth primarily through project delivery and on-demand resourcing within a relatively narrow market segment. This highlights a substantial opportunity for us to expand even further, by attacking the remaining whitespace. Looking ahead, my vision is to evolve and grow the business year on year, ensuring it remains client-focused, and consistently high-performing. I am keen to ensure we continue to deliver outstanding service to our clients, focus on attracting new clients that align with our service offering and drive growth by expanding the adoption of the full range of services in our portfolio. I am also looking forward to supporting our team’s development and engagement and ensure that they are at the heart of everything we do.
What’s one thing you want every team member to know or feel?
I want each of them to know how much we appreciate their individual efforts in representing our business and taking care of our customers. They should feel proud, not only of the work they do, but of the company they’re a part of. It’s also important to me that they feel valued and know they’re working for a business that is committed to growing alongside them and celebrating our shared successes.
What motivates you personally – inside and outside of work?
What motivates me at work is coffee. Lots of coffee. I really enjoy the full delivery lifecycle, from shaping the initial solution concept and winning the bid, to delivering an excellent outcome for the customer. I also like collaborating with different teams to come up with improvement ideas and seeing them through. I enjoy the process of problem-solving and putting plans into action. It’s especially fulfilling to see these initiatives come to life and deliver measurable results, whether it’s streamlining internal processes, enhancing team efficiency, or receiving positive feedback from our customers. Outside of work, I’m motivated by lots of different things. My children (my youngest literally gets me out of bed in the morning, whether I like it or not), I like to do creative things, I play guitar and write books, I read a lot, I’m currently learning Spanish, I’m very sociable and don’t mind the odd drink…
What’s a book, quote, or person that’s shaped your leadership?
“You should never hesitate to trade your cow for a handful of magic beans”. Tom Robbins.
What’s been your proudest moment so far?
From a personal perspective, I guess you probably shouldn’t be prouder than having kids and watching them grow up and achieve things, so I’ll go with that. From a work angle, I don’t think I have a proudest moment per se. I have many moments of satisfaction when we do things well, when we work together and come up with new creative ways of doing things, when we are successful with bids and just watching the business grow and knowing you played a part in it all.
