Upgrading Critical National Infrastructure Across the UK: A Telecoms Infrastructure Case Study

We’re proud to share the successful completion of a 12-month nationwide programme for a leading telecoms partner, delivering data cabling, electrical, and civils works across 40+ sites—including some of the most remote Scottish islands and coastal edges of the UK.

Scope of Works:

  • Replacement of legacy infrastructure with modern, high-performance systems.
  • Installation of new data cabinets and electrical distribution points.
  • Deployment of interconnecting structured cabling to support next-gen telecoms services.

This strategic upgrade was delivered under the GFX product (Government Furnished Equipment), enhancing resilience and performance across the clients UK’s telecoms estate.

Trusted to Deliver Within Critical National Infrastructure (CNI): As a proven provider within the Critical National Infrastructure sector, we specialise in secure, compliant networking and cabling solutions. All resources deployed were Security Cleared, ensuring full alignment with operational and regulatory requirements.

Structured Delivery & Compliance:

  • Two-Phase Delivery: Each site was completed through a structured survey phase followed by an implementation phase, ensuring readiness and precision.
  • ECR Governance: All works were delivered under the approved Engineering Change Request (ECR) process, maintaining strict change control and traceability.
  • JSP 604 Compliance: Our teams operated within MOD regulations, ensuring secure handling and installation of data infrastructure.
  • SCIDA Collaboration: We worked closely with Site Commissioning Installation Design Authorities (SCIDA) to validate designs, adapt to site-specific constraints, and ensure compliant delivery.
  • Certified Electrical Testing: All electrical works were completed by certified engineers, with testing carried out to the required standards to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance.

Challenges of Remote & Hazardous Site Delivery:

Operating in remote and logistically complex environments—such as isolated islands and coastal locations—required meticulous planning, flexible deployment strategies, and close coordination with local stakeholders. Additionally, many sites were located in ageing buildings with asbestos hazards, requiring our teams to navigate restricted and hazardous areas safely while ensuring the installed solutions met all health, safety, and operational standards.

This project highlights our ability to deliver multi-disciplinary infrastructure upgrades at scale—combining telecoms, electrical, and civils expertise to support the rollout of future-ready networks, even in the most challenging environments.
