We spoke to Ben Perrett, Senior Project Manager, to find out more about his role since joining at the start of 2024.
You joined Empowered at the start of 2024, what does your role encompass as Senior Project Manager?
I have had a varied involvement across multiple projects since joining, where I have been given the opportunity to demonstrate my delivery and leadership abilities at both a project and programme level. This has encompassed driving the delivery of a contract to completion and also stepping up to leading the direction of a team to achieve a performance enhancement, thus supporting our clients’ end goal collaboratively.
Has it been a steep learning curve?
It has been an exciting challenge transitioning from managing the running of a project to managing the results of a project/programme through the management of people. I couldn’t have done this without the exceptional team I have working with me and support from my experienced seniors.
You are managing some complex projects, can you give some insight into how you have driven them?
I like to think that I am an approachable manager with an open-door policy. Through this approach, my team is able to bring to me any challenges they have day-to-day, so that we can resolve them collaboratively and efficiently.
Have there been any highlights you can share? What have been some positive milestones for you?
Being involved with the delivery of a key Government contract has been a highlight, ensuring that we collectively hit both delivery milestones across both cabling requirements and also transitioning activities, bringing sites into service in line with a very challenging and demanding programme.
What do you think are the core principles for effective project management and delivery?
I believe that at the heart of all that we do needs to be trust and integrity. Once we have that, we need to ensure that we have drive, focus (to the task at hand), ownership and empowerment. If you empower the right person to deliver something, with the correct levels of responsibility, ownership and support, they will be able to deliver successfully.
What are you looking forward to later this year?
I have signed up to undertake a charity bike ride in aid of the RNLI, so I guess this will be my personal challenge to cycle more miles than I ever have! Professionally, I’ll continue to improve on the work I have been doing for the last six months to hopefully assist Empowered to continue on our growth trajectory.
